The roar of vintage four-cylinder engines will resonate through Crete on Thursday, July 9 when the 3rd Annual International Speedsters Trials and Reunion rolls into town. The public is invited to view the vintage vehicles powered by these early engines in the Communications Building parking lot on the beautiful Doane campus. The vehicles will arrive between 9 and 10 a.m. and will be on campus for approximately 45 minutes. Organizers are expecting 35-45 vehicles representing people and cars from around the U.S.
According to Rich Johnston, representative of the Smith Collection Museum of American Speed based in Lincoln, Neb, the road-trip to Crete will be day two of a five-day reunion filled with a road-rally, hill climb competition, technical seminars and other activities.
The 5-day event is a celebration of the earliest "everyman" racers, simple one and two seat speedsters that were easily built by hopping up Ford Model 'T's and Model 'A's, as well as other early mass-produced cars.
