Yellow Ribbon Program Helps Veterans Pay Tuition
Yellow Ribbon Program Helps Veterans Pay Tuition
Article Body
Doane College is supporting America's servicemen and women through a new program to help Iraq and Afghanistan veterans pay for college.
Called "The Yellow Ribbon Program," the program gives veterans easier access to out-of-state and private colleges. The new benefit is part of the Post 9-11/Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.
The Post-9/11 GI Bill pays up to the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition and fees. The Yellow Ribbon Program now allows institutions of higher learning such as Doane to voluntarily enter into an agreement to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution.
Doane has committed $7,500 per veteran, per year, to aid up to 100 veterans.
